Wedding Fair Visitors

I had a great time meeting the couples who stopped by our stand at the Highcliffe Castle wedding fair on Sunday.  It’s always wonderful to meet new people and hear about their wedding plans!    There were a few though, who seemed less excited than average about the whole thing.  Never one to miss an opportunity for documentary photography, I thought I’d share them with you.

What do you think we should do to keep these guys entertained at a wedding fair?  I’ll start with “free bar”!  Over to you…

Highcliffe Castle wedding photography highlights

Today we exhibited at the Highcliffe Castle wedding fair  and we thought you might enjoy a slideshow of some recent Highcliffe Castle wedding photography by Hampshire wedding photographer Jon Roach. There are also some highlights of Dorset wedding photography at Lulworth Castle and New Forest wedding photography at Rhinefield House Hotel.

It was lovely to meet so many brides and their fiancés and families enjoying their visit to the fair.  There was a good mixture of people looking to book their Highcliffe Castle wedding photography in 2013 and 2014 (no late bookings for 2012!).  It was also encouraging how many people were looking to have their whole day at Highcliffe Castle rather than just the ceremony, which will give them much more time to get the wedding photography at Highcliffe Castle that does justice to the venue.  It is a terrific place for an all day wedding with enormous grounds, access to the beach, and some amazing architectural detail.  From a photographer’s point of view it’s just one big playground with lots of opportunities to get some brilliant pictures.

It was great too to renew my acquaintance with some of my favourite wedding suppliers including Jason, Catherine and Lulu from Dorset Dubhire and Jules Florists.   The weather was very nice for the time of year with some sunshine to bring people out for a nice Sunday at Highcliffe Castle.  It was a good day even though I was a bit hoarse from being right next to Petrus Ensemble, a string quartet who played a great selection of live wedding music.

We took a selection of our wedding albums and discs, plus some photos on ipad and our pop up stand with several 12×18 prints, foam backed and velcroed to the stand.

Anyway without further ado onto the video.  This covers three recent Highcliffe Castle weddings and also some of Lulworth and Rhinefield.

Bournemouth Wedding Photographer at the Riviera Hotel

I loved being Katrina and Adam’s Bournemouth wedding photographer at the Riviera Hotel.  The Riviera Hotel sits high about the beach at Alum Chine. Katrina and Adam were obviously very much in love, kind and caring to one another. They made sure they and their guests had a brilliant time.  Here’s the story of their day!

Wedding Photographer Bournemouth at the Riviera Hotel

Bournemouth Wedding Photographer – Getting Ready

Katrina and Adam decided that their wedding photography in the Riviera Hotel Bournemouth would start at the start of the ceremony.  I arrived about an hour before to get some shots of the ceremony room. The ceremony room shots are best when the room is empty.  Next I took some candids of Katrina and Adam’s guests arriving.  Katrina and Adam had chosen a striking crimson colour scheme which stood out beautifully.

I took Adam and his best friend and best man Adam aside for some portraits.  Next I went  to find Katrina and her bridesmaids all dressed up and ready to go in a room at the other end of the hotel.  I got some documentary photos of Katrina meeting the lovely Registrars, and then headed off to the Cunarder Conservatory to catch Katrina as she arrived.  The Conservatory is a lovely location full of light.  It overlooks the sea at Alum Chine. It’ a great place to marry, and a great place to take wedding photographs in Bournemouth!

 The Ceremony

The Registrars guided Katrina and Adam through their Bournemouth wedding with charm and talent.  One thing I’ve noticed in my time among as  Bournemouth wedding photographers is how expert the Registrars are at relaxing the bride and groom!  I used my usual style of keeping in one place and documenting the ceremony with candid Bournemouth wedding photography.

Group Photos and Portraits

After the ceremony the guests congratulated Katrina and Adam over Pimm’s and canapés.  Then I took them all outside for a very blowy group photo-shoot!  It was definitely one of the windiest in my time as a wedding photographer in Bournemouth! We moved round to the sheltered side of the hotel fairly quickly!  Then it was off around the hotel with Katrina and Adam for some portraits of the newly-weds.  As usual I made sure they were back with their guests in time for the start of the reception.

The Reception

In the meantime the Riviera Hotel  Bournemouth staff had done an excellent job.  They transformed the Cunarder Conservatory from a wedding ceremony room to a stylish reception venue.   Part of my role as their wedding photographer Bournemouth was to document the room set up for the wedding breakfast.  Katrina, Adam and their guests sat down to a delicious meal.

The Speeches

The speeches were by turns very dry and funny (Katrina’s dad Tony), heartfelt and romantic (Adam), and, from best man Adam, something truly honest about what a great friend Adam was and how he’d make a great husband.  Not your stereotypical best man’s speech at all and much the better for it.  One of the things I like most about being a wedding photographer in Bournemouth is learning so much about both families from the speeches.

The Party

Once dinner had gone down we all made our way down to the Mauretania Suite for the evening function, with around fifty extra guests.

It was great to hear local band Gasoline Alley play. This is the second wedding I’ve seen them at in a couple of years, and they get better and better!  If you’re looking for a recommendation for a party band you could definitely do worse than ask a Bournemouth wedding photographer!  They packed the dance floor and really made the party go well.

Ringwood Wedding Photography Hampshire

I was delighted to be Samantha and Craig’s wedding photographer in Ringwood. A few years ago I was lucky enough the be the photographer when Sam’s brother Dave and sister-in-law Charlie held their wedding blessing in Ringwood Church, and combined it with the christening of their first daughter Sophia. Back then Sam and Craig were the godparents, and today they had decided to return from Cardiff to Ringwood Church for their wedding.

The day dawned clear and sunny, and I realised we were in for a hot one! I set off for Ringwood Church. We had time for a few shots of the guys outside, and then I met Sam and her entourage of bridesmaids and flower girls as the arrived in two lovely white Jags with matching ribbons. There was a small crowd to welcome Sam outside the church exclaiming how gorgeous she looked!

The ceremony in Ringwood Church was really personal to Sam and Craig, a nice mixture of a traditional service with interruptions from Sam’s nieces Sophia and Olivia, and afterwards we made the most of the sunshine for some group photos outside the church. My favourite moment was when Sam and Craig sat down after the vows and the exchange of rings, and the vicar pointed out that there were two things missing from the order of service: there is no ‘you may kiss the bride’ and there is no applause from the congregation! Cue a big kiss and lots of cheering and clapping!

After the guests had departed to the reception we took a few minutes for some romantic portraits of Sam and Craig in and around the church grounds using the wonderful texture of the old stones, and then delivered the newlyweds to their Jag for the short drive to their marquee reception in the garden of Sam’s family home. This was a very relaxed ‘do’ with a tented bar and barbeque catering and the guests spread out to enjoy the lovely garden. Once the meal was over there were some heartfelt speeches, after which Sam and Craig cut the cake which was created for them by best man Pete, and danced together for the first time before inviting all their family and friends to join them on the dance floor.

Montagu Arms Beaulieu Wedding Photography

Time for some Montagu Arms Beaulieu wedding photography!  It was a warm and overcast day at the end of August when I arrived at the Montagu Arms in Beaulieu for Karen and Stephen’s New Forest wedding.  The Montagu Arms is a lovely country house hotel full of oak panelling and with some gorgeous gardens – a New Forest wedding photographer‘s dream location!

Karen and Stephen were from Chichester, but chose to marry in Beaulieu due to their love of the New Forest.  We met a couple of times in their home city to plan their wedding photography – something I always do to learn more about my couples and what they are looking for as a permanent memory of their wedding day.

Montagu Arms Beaulieu wedding photography – Getting Ready

First of all I visited the Bridal Suite, where Karen was getting ready with her daughter Kerry.  I took some detail shots such as these of Karen’s tiara and bouquet, some candids of the preparations, and lastly some portraits of Karen looking lovely in her dress.

Montagu Arms Beaulieu Wedding Photography – Waiting for the Bride

I went downstairs to find Stephen waiting for his bride, chatting with his guests who were doing a great job keeping him relaxed and managing his nerves!

Then Karen made her entrance to the Oakwood Room, and the ceremony could begin. It was beautiful, with Karen and Stephen’s children as ring bearers and bridesmaids it was wonderful to see all the new family coming together.

Montagu Arms Beaulieu Wedding Photography – The Reception

After the ceremony it was out into the gardens for champagne, Pimm’s, and canapes, followed by some formal photos on the top terrace.  The top terrace doubles as a croquet lawn, so there was much fun with mallets!

We then went on a short walking tour of Beaulieu, for some more intimate and relaxed portraits of the newlyweds.  The architecture and its textures make for some great backdrops for their Beaulieu wedding photographs.

Wedding Photographer  Montagu Arms Beaulieu – Evening meal in the Terrace Restaurant

We returned to the Terrace Restaurant where Karen and Stephen had arranged all their 24 guests on one long table for the wedding breakfast, which was an unusual but very effective layout since all their guests could see and speak to one another without having to move around!  The speeches were short, sweet, and romantic – well, except Karen’s dad, who must have made three or four speeches what with one thing and another!  My favourite memory is of Karen’s brother reading out the cards during the speeches – there was one which should remain unprinted but which gave me a great set of reaction photos along the lines of “he didn’t just say that, did he? He did!”

And after a long day I left Karen and Stephen to enjoy a relaxed evening with their friends and family.  The brief from the couple was for photos conveying “a relaxed and intimate mood – give us a book full of people laughing”, and I like to think we achieved it!
