Time for some Montagu Arms Beaulieu wedding photography! It was a warm and overcast day at the end of August when I arrived at the Montagu Arms in Beaulieu for Karen and Stephen’s New Forest wedding. The Montagu Arms is a lovely country house hotel full of oak panelling and with some gorgeous gardens – a New Forest wedding photographer‘s dream location!
Karen and Stephen were from Chichester, but chose to marry in Beaulieu due to their love of the New Forest. We met a couple of times in their home city to plan their wedding photography – something I always do to learn more about my couples and what they are looking for as a permanent memory of their wedding day.
Montagu Arms Beaulieu wedding photography – Getting Ready
First of all I visited the Bridal Suite, where Karen was getting ready with her daughter Kerry. I took some detail shots such as these of Karen’s tiara and bouquet, some candids of the preparations, and lastly some portraits of Karen looking lovely in her dress.

We paused for a portrait of Karen using the light from this big stairwell window on the way to Karen’s New Forest wedding at the Montagu Arms Beaulieu
I really love the way the light brings out the detail in Karen’s dress.

Montagu Arms Beaulieu Wedding Photography – Waiting for the Bride
I went downstairs to find Stephen waiting for his bride, chatting with his guests who were doing a great job keeping him relaxed and managing his nerves!

Then Karen made her entrance to the Oakwood Room, and the ceremony could begin. It was beautiful, with Karen and Stephen’s children as ring bearers and bridesmaids it was wonderful to see all the new family coming together.

Montagu Arms Beaulieu Wedding Photography – The Reception
After the ceremony it was out into the gardens for champagne, Pimm’s, and canapes, followed by some formal photos on the top terrace. The top terrace doubles as a croquet lawn, so there was much fun with mallets!

And here’s why you should never invite your sister to your wedding…

We then went on a short walking tour of Beaulieu, for some more intimate and relaxed portraits of the newlyweds. The architecture and its textures make for some great backdrops for their Beaulieu wedding photographs.

Wedding Photographer Montagu Arms Beaulieu – Evening meal in the Terrace Restaurant
We returned to the Terrace Restaurant where Karen and Stephen had arranged all their 24 guests on one long table for the wedding breakfast, which was an unusual but very effective layout since all their guests could see and speak to one another without having to move around! The speeches were short, sweet, and romantic – well, except Karen’s dad, who must have made three or four speeches what with one thing and another! My favourite memory is of Karen’s brother reading out the cards during the speeches – there was one which should remain unprinted but which gave me a great set of reaction photos along the lines of “he didn’t just say that, did he? He did!”

And after a long day I left Karen and Stephen to enjoy a relaxed evening with their friends and family. The brief from the couple was for photos conveying “a relaxed and intimate mood – give us a book full of people laughing”, and I like to think we achieved it!
