Jon Roach » Natural relaxed wedding photography in Bournemouth, Dorset and Hampshire

Some answers to common questions about wedding photography!

What would you like to know about Christchurch wedding and portrait photographer Jon Roach?

Find A Wedding Photographer recently published its Top Ten Questions You Should Ask Your Wedding Photographer. We thought it would be fun and informative to answer them:

1. How long have you been shooting weddings?

Since 2008.  Jon achieved his first professional qualification, a Licentiateship of the British Institute of Professional Photography (LBIPP), in 2012.  Wedding photography that does justice to one of the biggest days in your life is highly demanding and experience counts.  All weddings are different and Jon’s experience allows him to deal with different situations, lighting, and weather conditions without interrupting the flow of your wedding.

2. If I book, will you be the photographer at my wedding?

Yes, you’ll get Jon Roach. All the photos on this site are by Jon in his unique style.  Jon will use your pre-wedding consultation to start to build a rapport with you that will result in truly memorable wedding photos. Should you opt for a pre-wedding shoot, this is a great opportunity to get some great portraits and for you to relax in front of the lens.

Occasionally Jon will work with a second photographer to help him, for weddings with a lot of guests, or if you need Jon to be in two places at once (for instance, if you want getting ready shots of the bride in Southampton and the groom in Bournemouth). The second photographers Jon works with are experienced and qualified wedding photographers in their own right, and you can count on them to deliver.

Some companies use freelance photographers and the person you are seeing might be a salesperson. This might be a cheaper approach but you won’t necessarily know your photographer.

3. Is the work that I am seeing all yours and only yours or is it a selection of work from more than one photographer?

It’s all work by Jon. All the wedding photos you see on were taken by the photographer who will be shooting your wedding.

4. Can I see some complete weddings?

Of course – this shows you that Jon achieves consistency from start to finish, rather than just showing you some edited highlights. Please contact us to make an appointment to see some sample albums from recent weddings with examples of our photography from venues across Hampshire and Dorset.  We also like to put a lot of photos from each wedding on our blog, so please have a look there.

5. Do we get a disc of print files so we can order our own prints?

Yes, this is usually included in our wedding photography packages.  You’ll get a special presentation case with the edited images from your wedding shoot, in colour and black and white, and in “high resolution for printing” and “low resolution for web/email”.  You can use the pictures for anything you like, as long as you don’t sell them.  Technically this means FourT4 Photography keeps the copyright, and you get a perpetual licence to use the pictures.

One other thing about pictures on disc: it’s very fashionable to have your photos on disc, but will you really look at them much?  Don’t let the memories of one of the biggest days of your life languish in a drawer.  Get some professional prints of your favourite pictures, and maybe an album, and put them out on display where they can remind you every day!

6. If the wedding overruns will there be any extra charges?

Generally, yes.  This is something we’d agree on at your pre-wedding consultation but we’re very flexible.  Our entire business philosophy is based on being there to serve you on the biggest day of your life.

7. Is an album included and can I see an example?

If you’d like an album we supply gorgeous hand-made coffee table albums from Loxley Colour and Folio Albums.  They really have to be seen in real life though, so please make an appointment to meet us or find us at a wedding fair where we’ll be loaded with samples!

8. How long after the wedding do we get to see our wedding photographs?

We endeavour to complete editing and post-production, and upload your photos to a secure web gallery, within 2 weeks. Please allow more time in the height of the summer season though – we will be busy shooting weddings, and modern wedding photography involves post production work to make sure your images are just right. Better to wait for the perfect picture.

9. Are there any other charges on top of the quoted price?

We tailor a package to your requirements so there aren’t any nasty surprises. We do charge at cost for travel, and sometimes accommodation, for weddings more than 50 miles from Ringwood, Hampshire.

10. Do you require a deposit and when is the balance due?

We require a deposit to guarantee the booking.  We will then send you a contract which sets out the terms and conditions, cancellation rights and products included in the package.  The balance is payable 30 days before the wedding.
